2017 Bristol WWQ at Redmaids’ High and ‘three cheers for Rosemary’

Bristol WWQ 2017 report
Nine teams from five Bristol schools entered this year’s WorldWise Quiz, hosted at Redmaids’ High School, November 14th 2017. Thanks are due to Tony Wright, who conducted proceedings as quizmaster; Michelle Graffagnino, who organised the event that was hosted by Janet Neil of Redmaids’ High; Rosemary Routledge, Chloe Gibson and Simon Killen, all of whom were on hand to collate the scores.

Each team of three, from Yr10 or Yr11, were questioned on a range of geography knowledge.

Bristol WWQ Cup awaits winners of 2017 competition at RedMaids High

Scores scrutinised by able team of GA committee volunteers

All teams battled to the end, but Bristol Grammar School eventually triumphed with impressive final score, with Queen Elizabeth Hospital School teams a close second after leading in early rounds. Redmaids’ High, St Mary Redcliffe and Temple and Backwell Schools were also represented in the competition.

The winners! Bristol Grammar School.

Award for Rosemary
In addition to the awards and prizes for the teams, it was fitting to be able to present a special award to Rosemary Routledge, who has done so much for the local Geographical Association competition for the past decades. She has done valiant work helping to organise the quiz in Bristol, and liaised with schools in Bath to run parallel events there. All at this year’s WWQ wished her well after she was presented with a certificate recognising this outstanding service to the GA. Thanks again, Rosemary.
